White Lily and Seven Pears

In White Lily and Seven Pears, Alvi Siren places a single open lily above seven golden pears against a dark, richly worked ground. The composition dispenses with a conventional vase or clearly defined table, allowing the flower, leaves, and fruit to appear almost suspended within the vertical canvas.

The white lily extends towards the left, its trumpet-shaped bloom sharply illuminated against passages of black, burgundy, and burnt umber. Cream and pale yellow soften the petals, while the warm throat of the flower connects the bloom visually with the fruit below. A closed bud rises towards the upper right, suggesting another flower yet to open.

A tall yellow-green stem runs through the centre of the painting, accompanied by long leaves that bend and curl in different directions. Seven pears are distributed individually across the lower half of the canvas. Painted in shades of golden yellow, amber, ochre, and pale green, the fruit varies in shape and orientation.
