Pineapple and Coral Carnations

In Pineapple and Coral Carnations, Alvi Siren brings flowers, fruit, glassware, and a bottle together in a warm, generously arranged still life. The composition is anchored by a pineapple rising at the centre, its patterned body and vigorous crown forming the painting’s principal vertical element.

To the left, coral-red carnations extend from a rounded glass vase. Several flowers open in different directions, while smaller buds and curving stems give the arrangement a light, irregular rhythm. The transparent vessel is painted in layered blue-green, cream, and yellow, allowing the submerged stems and reflections to remain visible.

A large circular platter fills the foreground with yellow-green pears, bananas, apples, and elongated orange-red fruits. Their overlapping forms create a dense rhythm of curves around the base of the pineapple. A halved citrus fruit appears behind the platter, introducing a bright segmented form among the softer outlines of the surrounding produce.

On the right, a dark amber bottle and two large oval fruits provide a substantial counterweight to the glass vase. The upright bottle echoes the pineapple’s vertical direction, while its deep brown and red tones bring greater depth to the predominantly golden composition.

Through softened contours and expressive contrasts of coral, gold, orange, and green, Alvi transforms a traditional still life into a vivid celebration of abundance.
