The Round Table Harvest

In The Round Table Harvest, Alvi Siren gathers fruit, vegetables, flowers, and vessels across the broad surface of a circular wooden table. The close arrangement fills the lower half of the canvas, while a softly modulated turquoise-green background provides an open, luminous setting for the warm-toned still life.

A large earthen bottle rises at the back of the composition, its rounded body painted in terracotta, amber, and deep red-brown. Beside it, a small pale jug holds compact red flowers, introducing a vertical cluster of colour between the vessel and the abundant fruit below.

Red and blue-violet grapes cascade across the left side, partly surrounding a small reflective cup. Apples, bananas, a pear, citrus fruit, peppers, and an aubergine extend across the remaining surface. Some fruits remain whole, while cut citrus segments in the foreground reveal their bright interiors and add greater variety to the arrangement.

The painting’s circular table is central to its structure. Its curved edge encloses the produce and guides the eye around the composition, while the repeated rounded forms of grapes, apples, fruit, and vessels echo the table’s shape. Taller objects at the back rise above this low, spreading rhythm and give the still life balance and depth.

Warm orange, crimson, yellow, and terracotta tones dominate the table, offset by violet grapes, the dark aubergine, and the cool green-blue background. Through generous form, softened contours, and expressive colour, Alvi transforms an everyday gathering of food and flowers into a vibrant celebration of harvest and domestic abundance.
