Note: this artwork is a study

In Green Fruit Study, Alvi Siren explores a cluster of rounded green fruit set among loose, expressive foliage. The composition is direct and exploratory, bringing the viewer close to the fruit so that form, colour, and gesture become the central focus of the work.

The fruit are painted in pale greens, yellow-greens, and soft white highlights, giving them a fresh, luminous quality. Their rounded shapes vary slightly in size and angle, suggesting natural growth while leaving the exact species open to interpretation. This ambiguity allows the painting to function less as botanical description and more as a study of volume, light, and green tonal relationships.

Alvi’s brushwork is immediate and gestural. Broad dark-green strokes form the surrounding leaves and stems, while more rounded, layered marks build the surfaces of the fruit. A reddish-brown branch crosses the left side of the composition, introducing a warm counterpoint to the otherwise green palette and helping to structure the arrangement.

The background remains partially open, with areas of unpainted or lightly worked surface visible between the foliage. This gives the study a sense of freshness and process, allowing the viewer to see the movement of the artist’s hand and the decisions behind the composition.

As a study, Green Fruit Study captures a moment of painterly investigation. Through simplified forms, luminous colour, and expressive mark-making, Alvi Siren transforms a cluster of green fruit into an exploration of growth, observation, and the quiet richness of the garden.
