Garden Strawberries

In Garden Strawberries, Alvi Siren places a freshly gathered harvest within the dense growth of the garden. A deep bowl brimming with strawberries occupies the lower-right half of the composition, surrounded by broad leaves, trailing stems, and additional fruit still growing close to the ground.

The strawberries form a concentrated field of scarlet, crimson, orange-red, and magenta. Yellow seed-like marks and bright white highlights enliven their rounded surfaces, while darker burgundy passages separate the overlapping fruit. Variations in size and angle give the harvest a lively, irregular abundance.

Curved lines of pale blue, white, green, and deep red define the bowl. The rim circles the fruit and holds the clustered forms together, while repeated arcs beneath it suggest the vessel’s depth and reflective surface. Partly absorbed into the surrounding vegetation, the bowl appears embedded within the garden rather than formally arranged for display.

Around the harvest, strawberry leaves spread in multiple directions. Their greens range from emerald and turquoise to yellow-green and near-black, with dark linear marks describing veins, folds, and overlapping edges. Long stems descend through the composition, connecting the bowl to berries and plant forms below.

The background is built from compressed passages of brown, maroon, black, and deep green. These shadowed tones make the reds appear especially vivid, while flashes of lime, white, and turquoise keep the foliage active. Near the lower centre, a pale star-shaped plant form introduces a sharp counterpoint to the rounded fruit.
