In Bolete Study, Alvi Siren focuses on two mushroom forms emerging from a loose field of green and ochre tones. The composition is direct and intimate, presenting the boletes as simplified woodland forms within an open, exploratory setting.
The mushrooms are painted with warm, earthy colour. The larger cap is a deep chestnut brown, broad and rounded, while the smaller cap carries softer brown and taupe tones. Beneath them, pale stems are shaped with creamy whites, muted blues, and beige marks, giving the fungi a luminous but deliberately simplified presence.
Alvi’s brushwork is open and process-led. Broad strokes describe the surrounding green growth, while thicker curved marks build the caps and stems. Areas of visible canvas, broken edges, and unfinished passages allow the viewer to sense the immediacy of observation and the movement of the artist’s hand.
The background is loosely abstracted, with yellow-greens, olive tones, and darker passages suggesting grass, moss, and forest floor rather than a detailed environment. This gives the work an earthy atmosphere while keeping attention on the relationship between the two mushroom forms.
As a study, Bolete Study becomes an investigation of shape, weight, and natural texture. Through restrained colour, tactile surface, and direct mark-making, Alvi Siren transforms the mushrooms into quiet woodland forms – organic, simplified, and held within the green warmth of the forest floor.
