In Vine and Vessel, Alvi Siren brings together grapes, fruit, glassware, and curving botanical lines within a cool, atmospheric still life. A wide-stemmed glass bowl occupies the centre of the composition, overflowing with grape clusters that spread across its rim and descend around its pale, sculptural form.

The grapes range from luminous mint and blue-green to lavender, muted violet, cobalt, and near-black. A dense dark cluster forms the visual centre, surrounded by paler fruit whose rounded surfaces catch small white highlights. The repeated circles create a flowing rhythm across the bowl, balancing abundance with the painting’s restrained palette.

The central vessel is rendered in translucent shades of pale turquoise, grey-green, and icy blue. Its broad bowl and slender stem provide a clear geometric structure beneath the organic fruit. In the lower-left area, two pear-like green forms emerge from deep shadow, adding further weight to the base of the arrangement.

On the right, a second, much larger vessel is suggested through broad pale colour and dark linear contours. The form resembles a pitcher or jug, but remains partly dissolved into the blue-green ground. A looping line extends from the vessel like a handle, vine tendril, or drawn trace, introducing movement and connecting the domestic object to the botanical subject.

The background is built from layered passages of turquoise, teal, emerald, blue-grey, and deep green. Scraped textures, faint marks, and shifting tonal fields blur the distinction between table, interior, and atmosphere. This ambiguity allows the objects to appear suspended between physical presence and remembered form.

In Vine and Vessel, Alvi Siren reimagines the traditional fruit still life through cool colour, layered transparency, and expressive simplification. The contrast between clustered grapes, sculptural vessels, shadowed pears, and vine-like lines creates a meditation on abundance and containment – nature gathered within objects that themselves begin to dissolve into atmosphere.
