The Rising Sun

In The Rising Sun, Alvi Siren presents a pared-down, contemplative seascape where light becomes the central protagonist. A single, pale disc hovers just above the horizon, suspended within a wide expanse of sky and water rendered in muted greens, blues, and warm golds. The composition is intentionally minimal, allowing atmosphere and colour to carry emotional weight.

The painting is structured around a vertical corridor of light: a luminous band of yellow and ochre descends from the sky down through the centre of the canvas, dissolving into the surface of the sea below. This passage acts as both reflection and radiance, connecting sky and water into a unified field. On either side, cooler tones of blue-grey recede gently, creating contrast and amplifying the glow at the centre.

The sun itself is softly defined, almost diffused rather than sharply radiant. Its pale surface lacks the intense, fiery saturation often associated with sunset, instead suggesting a more restrained, emerging light.
