Spirit of Summer

In Spirit of Summer, Alvi Siren creates an abundant natural landscape where mushrooms, flowering plants, dandelion-like seed heads, a branching tree, and vivid blue sky coexist within one richly textured environment. The composition brings together the density of the woodland floor and the openness of a summer meadow, celebrating nature at the height of its growth.

A substantial tree dominates the left side, its dark trunk and spreading branches painted in layered tones of umber, charcoal, rust, violet, and green. Bright marks of yellow, lime, white, and orange move across the bark and surrounding foliage, suggesting textured growth and sunlight caught among the leaves. The tree provides a strong structural counterweight to the expansive sky.

Across the centre, approximately eight white seed heads rise on slender green stems. Their pale circular forms appear almost translucent against the turquoise-blue background, creating an airy rhythm through the middle of the painting. On the right, tall blue-violet flowers extend upward, accompanied by buds and angular green stems that introduce a second vertical movement.

Mushrooms emerge throughout the foreground in varied forms and colours. Rounded orange-brown caps with thick pale stems gather beneath the tree and near the centre, while flatter red, burgundy, and pinkish caps appear closer to the lower edge. Rather than being isolated specimens, the fungi are embedded within grasses, small flowers, moss, and dense undergrowth.

Alvi’s surface is built from energetic dabs, short directional strokes, scraped textures, and heavier layers of colour. Emerald, turquoise, yellow-green, ochre, violet, red, and white intermingle across the ground, creating the impression of a landscape alive with overlapping cycles of flowering, fruiting, growth, and renewal. The brilliant cyan and turquoise sky provides a luminous interval above this concentrated abundance.
