ID 469

Medium: acrylic on canvas, not framed

Year: 2012

In Red Floral Abstract, Alvi Siren transforms the floral subject into an atmospheric composition of colour, movement, and suspended form. Two red blossoms emerge against a pale peach ground, their petals simplified into bold shapes that hover between recognisable flower and abstraction.

The upper bloom becomes the main point of focus. Deep reds, crimson, burgundy, and translucent rose tones gather around a glowing orange centre, creating a vivid contrast between warmth and shadow. The petals open outward in layered forms, edged with darker lines that give the flower structure while preserving a sense of fluidity.

Below and to the right, a darker floral form anchors the composition. Its petals are less distinctly described, merging into deeper reds, browns, and shadowed tones. This contrast between the luminous upper flower and the denser lower bloom creates a quiet visual tension, balancing openness with weight.

The background plays an important role in the work’s abstract character. Soft peach, cream, and pale rose tones are brushed and washed across the canvas, with vertical marks and subtle drips adding movement to the surface. Rather than describing a garden setting, the surrounding space becomes an atmosphere of warmth and light in which the flowers seem to appear and dissolve.

Rather than a traditional floral painting, Red Floral Abstract becomes an exploration of bloom as gesture and colour. Through simplified forms, layered reds, and a softly luminous ground, Alvi Siren captures the flower as both image and sensation – delicate, expressive, and alive with painterly rhythm.
