Lilies in Bloom
In Lilies in Bloom, Alvi Siren brings the viewer into a dense garden composition where several lilies open among upright buds, broad leaves, and layered green foliage. The flowers fill almost the entire canvas, creating an immersive image of bloom, colour, and vigorous natural growth.
A large open lily dominates the lower-right foreground. Its broad petals unfold in shades of raspberry, burgundy, plum, violet, and pale pink, illuminated by small strokes of white and soft blue. Darker contours trace the ruffled edges and inner folds, giving the flower a strong sculptural presence. Yellow stamens rise from its centre, introducing a vivid burst of light against the richly coloured petals.
Above it, another lily opens across the upper centre of the composition, its elongated petals extending outward through the surrounding greenery. On the left, additional blossoms turn at different angles, creating a continuous rhythm of overlapping petals and flowering forms. The variation in scale and direction allows the eye to move naturally through the garden rather than settle on a single isolated bloom.
Several unopened and partially opening buds appear along the right side. Painted in bright yellow-green, cream, burgundy, and violet, these compact forms provide a striking contrast to the expansive lilies. Their presence introduces the continuing cycle of growth, placing fully opened flowers beside blooms that are still forming.
Alvi’s brushwork is bold and directional. Sweeping marks follow the curves and folds of the petals, while strong green strokes build the surrounding leaves and stems. Deep emerald, turquoise, lime, blue-green, and near-black passages create a richly layered botanical setting, allowing the pink and burgundy flowers to emerge with heightened intensity.
The composition is abundant but carefully balanced. Bright foliage frames the lilies without confining them, while the darker interior spaces provide depth and visual rest. Warm yellows illuminate the flower centres and buds, creating points of light that move through the otherwise cool green and violet field.
Rather than presenting the lilies as a formal arrangement, Lilies in Bloom captures them as part of an active, flourishing garden. Through saturated colour, tactile brushwork, and closely interwoven forms, Alvi Siren transforms the floral subject into an expressive exploration of growth, radiance, and the unfolding energy of nature.
