Gilded Meadow (Detail View 1), painting by Ukrainian artist Alvi Siren

In Gilded Meadow, Alvi Siren preserves the physical presence of meadow plants within a small circular hanging plaque. Real botanical forms appear to have been pressed into or embedded upon the pale surface, transforming leaves, stems, and clustered flowers into a tactile composition poised between painting and low-relief sculpture.

The plants rise from the lower edge in an irregular gathering. Broad serrated leaves occupy the centre and left, their delicate networks of veins remaining clearly visible beneath the pigment. Slender stems divide into flattened clusters of tiny flowers, creating a lighter rhythm across the upper part of the botanical arrangement.

Metallic gold unifies the different plant forms and draws attention to their intricate structures. The pigment collects along leaf veins, stems, and flower heads, catching the light differently across the raised surface. Traces of green and earthy brown remain visible beneath the gold, preserving a connection to the plants’ original colour.

The warm botanical relief contrasts with the chalky ivory ground surrounding it. This open, lightly textured surface allows the individual silhouettes to remain distinct, while subtle marks and variations in tone preserve the handmade character of the plaque.

A small hole and natural-fibre cord turn the circular support into an object intended for hanging. These elements give the work an intimate, handcrafted quality and allow it to exist simultaneously as botanical assemblage, sculptural plaque, and decorative artwork.

Gilded Meadow transforms fragile plant material into a lasting record of natural form. Through preservation, relief, and metallic colour, Alvi Siren presents the meadow not as a distant landscape but through its smallest details – leaves, stems, and flowers held together in a luminous botanical impression.
