Woodland Monarchs

Woodland Monarchs Collection brings together four paintings by Alvi Siren dedicated to the solitary mushroom. Emerging from moss, shadow, and dense forest growth, each mushroom occupies the composition with an unexpected sense of scale and presence.

Viewed individually, the mushrooms appear almost portrait-like. Their distinctive caps, strong stems, and textured surfaces give each one its own character, while Alvi’s expressive brushwork transforms the surrounding woodland into a rich interplay of colour, earth, and vegetation.

Across Woodland Monarch, Crowned by Shadow, Crowned in Moss, and Forest Crown, the mushroom becomes more than a botanical subject. Enlarged and isolated, it takes on the presence of a quiet woodland sovereign – rooted close to the earth yet monumental within its environment.

The collection explores recurring ideas of resilience, emergence, and overlooked beauty. Together, the paintings invite the viewer to enter the intimate world of the forest floor and reconsider the quiet significance of its smallest inhabitants.

Crowned in Moss

In Crowned in Moss, Alvi Siren transforms a solitary woodland mushroom into a monumental and almost emblematic presence. Positioned at the centre of a dense, textured forest floor, the bolete emerges from deep greens, earthy golds, and shadowed organic forms as though slowly revealed by filtered woodland light. The painting draws the viewer into the intimate scale of the undergrowth, where overlooked details become rich with significance.

Forest Crown

In Forest Crown, Alvi Siren isolates a single mushroom and elevates it into a commanding, almost regal presence. Rising from a dense, richly textured forest floor, the bolete stands centrally, its stout, pale stem supporting a broad, rounded cap that reads like a natural crown – solid, grounded, yet quietly luminous within its surroundings.
